HOW TO EVALUATE ELEARNING PLATFORMS
Our respective professional activities lead us to work on a daily basis with the digital tool Moodle, our pedagogy is centered on the learner with this type of LMS, (Learning management system) moreover it is free and easily understandable by teachers and students. users which makes it very popular with the public. The resources and activities are varied. Moodle gives the possibility of working directly with the user or those who carry out their activities in complete autonomy. The teacher builds attractive and fun courses using free interactive content creation software, HTML5 Package (H5P) based on HTML5 and JavaScript present on the platform.
The application highlights its main functionality, that is to say free software which is distributed under the General Public License (GNU) written in PHP. It is Developed from educational principles, it allows you to create learning groups around its content and the creation of interactive activities. It is a robust and unique system for scripting lessons. It is constantly evolving, today we are at version 4.2.
By presenting an ergonomic evaluation tool, we realize that others before us have already evaluated platforms, with different grids, we chose a grid to present in the instructions which seemed to us to represent the criteria we needed. UX design, and the ergonomics of human-machine interfaces We looked for resources to feed our grids in the CEPIAH project, and in a guide to educational and graphic design of educational W3 sites, including an evaluation scale and in a grid website audit and analysis available on a website. In our research, we found a multitude of tools available to help us construct criteria. We used the 5-item Likert scale.
In our ergonomic evaluation criteria, we note that in ergonomics there is a multitude of interfaces, all different, but still meeting the needs of participants whatever the audience. The quality of the platform focuses mainly on navigation and the creation of content designed for the user in an intuitive manner. The participant's cognitive load must be adapted to their level in order to reduce their comprehension time and mental fatigue. We were also interested in the hedonic qualities of the tool and we noticed that it is still easy to use, users easily find what they are looking for. The different buttons are well known and help is easily accessible.
There are many criteria for educational strategies, we have selected the most suitable and discarded those concerning scenarios and everything relating to didactics. Indeed, there are other more relevant evaluation possibilities such as ergonomics or hedonism of interfaces for example.
To finish, we proposed to evaluate three criteria in order to make an estimate by item and to confirm by an expert assessment the properties of the platform in general (ergonomic and educational).
As for the result of the evaluation, we note a differentiation in the complexity of the educational activities which open the door to knowledge for the learner while giving him the impression of having fun, thus developing his learning independently.
In conclusion, it is a platform that meets the needs of teachers and learners, it is quite ergonomic and hedonic, we are looking forward to the next versions and the many plugins soon to be available. Since it has been constantly evolving since its creation in 2002 and is freely downloadable, everyone is adopting it. Since the learning market is constantly evolving, our review only confirmed that it is a good platform.
